KNSP is committed to providing a high quality, person-centered mobile speech pathology service to adults on the Southern GC and Northern NSW.
KNSP can come to you, taking the hassle out of attending clinic based appointments.
Katrina is the Principal Speech Pathologist at KNSP and has been practicing for over 16 years, spending most of her time working in a senior position in the acute and rehabilitation hospital setting. Katrina has established herself as a highly regarded speech pathologist on the Gold Coast with a wealth of knowledge working with adults experiencing both acute and chronic communication and/or swallowing disorders.
Videofluroscopy Swallow Study Clinic
Katrina established a private Videofluoroscopy Swallow Study (VFSS) Clinic in 2018, the only one of its kind on the Gold Coast. A VFSS is a diagnostic procedure used to evaluate swallow function. During this study, a client consumes food and fluid mixed with a contrast, while a fluoroscope captures real-time images of the swallowing function. This allows Katrina to accurately assess the coordination and function of the swallow mechanism, identify any abnormalities and determine suitable treatments. A VFSS is considered the gold standard in instrumental swallow assessment.
Videofluoroscopy swallow studies are completed at Queensland X-Ray at the Gold Coast Private Hospital located at 14 Hill Street in Southport.
How can we help?
At KNSP, we help people with challenges communicating or swallowing. If you or your loved one requires a communication or swallow assessment and treatment, KNSP is the speech pathology service for you.
Communication
Communication includes what we understand, what we say and how we say it. Someone may have an impairment of language, speech, voice, fluency and/or cognition. Disorders of language and cognition can result in increased difficulties not only speaking, but also reading and writing. Disorders of speech, voice and fluency impact how easily we are able to get our message across and are understood by others. If you experience challenges in your ability to communicate, KNSP can help.
Swallowing
Did you know, 15-30% of Australian’s aged 65 years and older experience difficulties swallowing, with that figure rising to over 50% of people living in aged care facilities? We swallow over 700 times per day and use 26 muscles every time! Swallowing is something we don’t often think about, that is until it starts to become more difficult. If you start to avoid certain foods, have difficulty chewing your food and moving it though your mouth, feel food or fluids get stuck in your throat and/or cough or choke when you eat or drink, KNSP can help. KNSP can provide home based dysphagia assessment and instrumental assessment (see Videofluoroscopy Swallow Study Clinic) if this is deemed necessary for you.
KNSP is the only private outpatient VFSS clinic on the Gold Coast since 2018.
